A Career Change That Surprised Everyone
This year, I made a career change that surprised everyone—including myself. I left a Director-level position for a role with a lower title, one that offered flexibility, a supportive team, and the ability to work remotely. I also kept excellent benefits, which mattered deeply to me and my family.
When I shared my decision with my boss, she smiled and said something that stayed with me:
“I used to love being able to reinvent myself every few years.”
Her words lit something up inside me. They reminded me that we are not just one thing—and we can reinvent ourselves whenever life calls for it.
The Beauty of Change and Growth
We are constantly evolving, growing, and moving through different seasons—and that is what makes life so rich and exciting.
The beautiful part about life is not arriving at some perfect version of success. It’s the journey itself: the striving, the building, the growing. When we get everything quickly and without effort, we often lose connection to the meaning behind it. The work, the patience, and the waiting deepen our sense of pride and appreciation.
Finding Balance in This Season
Right now, I’m in a season that feels balanced for our family. I have a job I enjoy, where I can close my laptop at 5 p.m. and be fully present with my kids. My work is low stress, the benefits are excellent, and my salary supports our family’s needs.
My husband’s career is more demanding and he has less time off, so I usually manage sick days or last-minute schedule changes. But this setup works for us in this stage of life—and I’m deeply grateful for that balance.
Lessons from the Past
Years ago, I struggled without health insurance and faced a serious illness that left me paying entirely out of pocket. It took years to recover financially, but it taught me the importance of stability and planning.
That experience shaped my career choices and led me to a path that allows me to care for my family while still creating space for my own interests and growth.
Making Space for What Matters
These days, I make time for the things I love in smaller ways—during nap time, after bedtime, on weekends, or with my husband’s or a babysitter’s help.
It’s not all the time, and it’s not the life I might have without children. But that’s okay. I chose this life, and I’m savoring it, one phase at a time.
I try to base my choices on my top values, prioritizing what’s feasible within the bounds of work and family responsibilities. Another phase of life will bring new opportunities, and I’ll be ready for them when they come.
Embracing the Season You’re In
For now, my focus is simple: to be present, patient, positive, and playful in this stage. I’m still learning as a mother, wife, friend, and person—and I’ll never have it all figured out.
Life is made up of seasons, each with its own lessons, joys, and challenges. Embracing this season fully allows me to appreciate the journey, knowing that change and growth are always on the horizon.
